What is MiniTOC Vancouver?

So, you may be asking yourself, what is miniTOC Vancouver? Well, for one - it's smaller than the "big" TOC held in New York every year. The attendance for Mini TOC's is limited - at Mini TOC Vancouver, we'll have a maximum crowd of 300 smart, engaging bookish, techy people for the conference day, and just 50 attendees for each of our workshops on workshop day. And small is good. While the focus at Mini TOC is on the intersection of technology and publishing — just like at the "big" TOCs — at Mini TOC, the crowd is small, the atmosphere is intimate and informal, and all the emphasis is on attendees and presenters sharing the conversations.

The other thing that makes a mini TOC different — regional focus. MiniTOC Vancovuer will put a special spotlight on Vancouver's publishing and tech scenes. By putting local movers and shakers on stage, we hope to let the global publishing world know there are exciting things happening in Vancouver. And, even more exciting - miniTOC Vancouver will be taking place at the brand, spanking new Centre for Digital Media! We can't think of a better venue to showcase the coolest things happening in tech and publishing than at the coolest new building in BC?

Workshop Day -Friday, October 19th:

100 lucky participants (50 in each workshop) will get to choose between our "Tech Workshop" and our "Secrets to Ebook Success" day-long workshops.

The Tech workshop will include sessions on HTML5, and OpenSource tools for mobile publising.

The Secrets to Ebook Success will feature a 1/2 day ebook publishing primer (including best practices for ebooks), and a 1/2 day on Social Media, online marketing, and promotional strategies for ebooks and book apps.

Conference Day and IGNITE -Saturday, October 20:

We've got a well-rounded program for miniTOC Vancouver, featuring speakers from the Vancouver area, as well as speakers who have frequented our NYC TOC program. The day will open with a keynote from Exprima Media's Corey Pressman, and end with a closing keynote from author and reading experience designer, Pete Meyers.

In between, attendees will be treated to presentations covering a number of very cool (and diverse) topics, including:

• Designing for Multiple Screens
• Discovery in the App Marketplace
• Transitioning Traditional Design to Digital
• Lean Publishing
• Digital Ethics
• Trends in Self-Publishing
• and MORE....

The day will be topped off by the first ever TOC Vancouver Ignite spotlighting 10 brave local souls willing to share their innovative, world-altering (or potentially world-altering) bookish/techy/artsy stories in a breath-takingly brisk format!
